What it is
A revision hair transplant is a second or subsequent hair-restoration procedure planned after an earlier transplant when additional coverage, density or restoration is desired.
The scalp needs to be reassessed as a previously transplanted scalp rather than treated like a first procedure. Existing grafts, scars, current hair loss and remaining donor hair all influence what can realistically be planned next. ISHRS specifically describes revision planning as requiring examination of the scalp and selection of an approach suited to the individual patient.

What can revision hair transplant address?
A previous transplant may continue to look good while natural hair around it changes over time. Revision planning identifies where further restoration could provide the most meaningful improvement.
Natural hair may continue thinning after the original procedure, creating new areas that require assessment.
Selected previously transplanted areas may be considered for additional density when scalp and donor conditions permit.

A second transplant should not simply repeat the first one. The scalp has changed, the hair-loss pattern may have progressed and part of the donor reserve has already been used.
