Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) is a term commonly used for an implantation approach in which prepared follicular-unit grafts are placed using specialised implanter devices.

These implanters can help place grafts while controlling depth, direction and angle, and they can reduce direct handling of the follicle bulb during placement. ISHRS notes, however, that DHI should not be described as a completely separate hair-transplant method.
